A lot of people don't know that in addition to claiming for the injury you suffer as a result of an accident that was not your fault you can also claim for financial losses caused by the accident.

In the case of a road traffic accident that can mean insurance policy excess, repair costs, pre-accident value if the vehicle is written off, hire charges, loss of use for being without the use of a vehicle, recovery charges, storage charges and collection charges in relation to the vehicle.

It can also mean loss of earnings, medication costs, traveling expenses to medical appointments, damaged clothing or property that was in the vehicle and the cost of care and assistance that was provided to you. You may be able to claim for the cost of care and assistance even if it was provided by, for example your partner or other family at no cost to you.

It is also possible to claim for future financial losses that haven't happened yet, such as future loss of earnings if you will not be able to work again. It is worth discussing in detail with a solicitor the other consequences of the accident, besides the injury that you received, so that all legitimate claims for loss can be made.
