Law changes! Once again the law on booster seats and chairs in cars have changed. Booster seat laws are those pesky things have parents scratching their heads in confusion.

But of course the law is always in the best interest of children and their safety.

This new law aims to tackle the use of backless booster seats, which according to experts don’t adequately protect the child’s head, back and shoulders in case of an accident.

Under the current booster seat laws, children must use the correct booster seats up till the age of 12 or 135cm tall. However currently if your child weighs more than 15kg they can travel using a backless booster seat.

This is set to change – now these backless booster cushions also known as ‘booster cushions’ will only be legally used by children who over 125 cm and who weigh more than 22kg.

But industry experts are not happy. They claim that these backless booster seats are not suitable for such young children and that the booster seats do nothing but provide a cushion for the children to sit on.

For them this rule seems a far cry from the standards that Germany and other European countries have enforced.

Bear in mind that it’s always the drivers responsibility to make sure all children who are not tall or old enough are strapped into booster seats.

So what is the best way to choose a booster seat? According to industry experts these are the seven things that you should look out while buying them.

And lastly, investment is key – your child’s protection is no joke so investing in a high protection good quality seat is definitely worth it. Don’t put your child’s life at risk, and remember the law are always there in the best interest of your child.

Lastly, these changes will probably come out in full force sometime later this year – most likely December. Once they are in place, and if caught without the correct seat anyone could land themselves a £500 fine.

If you find you need any legal advice or simply want to know more, don’t hesitate to call our team on: 0116 2999 199 or alternatively you can email us at: info@d-w-s.co.uk
