The firm has strengthened its core team with a partner promotion as part of ambitious growth plans in 2014. It has continued its investment in the business by promoting Charanjit Thandi to Property Partner. The Oxford graduate will now take an active role in growing the department including hiring new staff.
The move is part of an ongoing growth strategy for the firm which includes growing its presence across the UK. It recently opened an office in Mayfair.
Sameer Karim, CEO of Douglas Wemyss, described the promotion as a significant milestone in the development of the practice in 2014 which will include a recruitment drive to strengthen key areas of the practice.
He said: “We are really excited about the promotion of Charanjit and it seemed like a natural progression for him and the firm especially because of the strong property and conveyancing offer we now have.
“This promotion is part of our ongoing business strategy and commitment to our staff and our clients. We aim to recognise hard work and promote internally to help them in the next stage of their career.
“We are committed to investing in our talented people by putting them at the heart of our business growth plans going forward. Charanjit’s promotion will help bolster the property offering and the quality of service we are delivering to our clients.
“It is part of a strategy we have for 2014 which includes a recruitment drive in particular areas of the practice which are doing really well such as property.”
Mr Thandi started his law career as a paralegal at MHM Solicitors in 2006 before moving to Premier Solicitors in Bedford where he qualified as a solicitor in March 2010. He moved to Douglas Wemyss at the beginning of 2012.
He has a MA in Law from Oxford University and a postgraduate diploma in legal practice from the Oxford Institute of Legal Practice.
The 30-year-old from Leicester said: “I’m delighted to have been made partner and looking forward to growing the property offering further.
“I believe that the level of client service here is second to none because of the personal approach and clients’ access to a senior and experienced team.
“I hope to continue to build strong relations with clients and provide practical property and conveyancing solutions to work alongside their personal and business ambitions.”
His responsibilities will now include developing the property services of the firm including a managerial role within the firm, growing the team and the skills development of the 20-strong staff.
Outside of work, he takes part in a number of sports including football, hockey, table tennis, cricket, badminton, tennis, basketball and volleyball.
Last year, Douglas Wemyss expanded its reach across the UK by opening an office in the heart of the City in Mayfair to take advantage of the increasing number of clients it has in the South.
It also won the small business award at the Leicester Mercury Business Awards. Mr Karim was recently named by the Leicester Mercury publication as one of “The Most Influential People in Leicestershire”.
